We started Folklora because the digital recording of an adventure rarely tells the whole story.

Folklora was born one afternoon in the Pyrenees, when the shadow of a large raptor inked out the sun. For a moment, we held firmly onto the ankles of our two-year-old daughter, sitting on my shoulders, just in case she was carried off into the mist.

Panic over, we bought ice creams, looked out across the Col du Soulor and talked about cycling, adventure, folklore, and a half-serious idea about a band of cycling outlaws trying to do some good in this mysterious world. Time passed. Cities changed. The idea didn't go away. Eventually, Folklora emerged.

A GPX file can tell you where you went, how far you travelled and how quickly you got there. It can't tell you about the storm that rolled in over the mountain, the vulture circling overhead, the café where you sheltered, or the story behind the ruined chapel you passed along the way.

We make maps that can.

Folklora is just beginning.

We're currently creating bespoke maps, developing our collection of Mythical Routes and collaborating with people, places, events and brands that share our love of adventure and the stories surrounding it.
